Summer Fun!

The boys had so much fun exploring all the new parks and playing outside in a new yard this summer. Jacob also learned to swim AND ride his bike with no training wheels this summer. Joshua learned to ride on his tricycle and scooter. These boys are all about things with wheels!

The boys had fun playing in the backyard with the hose and anything else they could find!

We were so excited to celebrate Joshua's 2nd birthday! He has really grown up this past year. He has put on weight like our pediatrician wanted him to and is learning something new everyday. We also took the opportunity to invite all David's family out from Idaho for a visit. It was great to catch up with all the Tappens!

Today we braved some not so great weather and went out to Lone Pine Farms. They have a great fish pond a playground and GOATS!

So it was a nice sunny warm day the first week of April. I was trying to get ready to go running. David was taking out the garbage. He left the garage door to the kitchen open. Josh slipped and landed right on the edge of the door! YIKES! I was right there, he ran behind me as I was working at the counter and it was LOUD! I picked him up and blood was gushing down his face. Oh it was bad! He was crying and blood is running in his eyes and I am racing around trying to find something clean to put on his forehead. Jacob was playing in the backyard and I am yelling at him to come in as we run to the car. Luckily Josh stopped bleeding rather quickly and he was SO brave while he got his stiches put in...and out a week later.

He looked a little like frankenstein with the blue stiches hanging out of his forehead.

I realized the other day that I quite possibly have never in the past 21 months made a post about just Joshua. Here goes...

He is currently into Batman in a major way! He loves playing with the batman set and we have been watching old Batman episodes online. He bobs his head up and down to the theme song and says "MatMan" The other day I saw a t-shirt that had the Batman logo on it and I could not resist. I venture to guess that his second birthday party will have a Batman theme.

He is a dare devil to be sure. He climbs all over and up and down everything. Yesterday at the park he even slid down a climbing wall that you are supposed to climb UP. David said he had the biggest smile on his face and went and did it again! He also went down the tallest slide by himself several times. I of course was not there to see all this or I would have for sure had a heart attack.

I think I have created a potty monster! The other day I had him sit on a training chair for a bit when I thought he had to go the bathroom. Now he wants to try all the time! He eagerly ask to sit on the potty now and whenever I have to use the facilities I can be sure he will want to try also :) Of course we have yet to produce anything but I am glad he is excited!

He has a sweet tooth like his mommy and daddy. He knows where we keep our stash of sugar and points to it and says "Nandy, Nandy". I have gotten in the habit of getting him a donut every Sunday evening to try and fatten him up a bit. He likes a glazed old fashioned just like me :)

And of course like most younger brothers he loves to imitate everything he sees his older brother do! Josh now requests to wear underwear "Undy, Undy" under OR over his pants. He tries to climb up the railing, jump off the bed, swing on the swings and thinks he really must ride a bike.

Second Annual Valentines Day Pirate's Treasure Hunt

This was the second year that we hid chocolates and goodies for the boys at Webster Park. David goes and plants them and "steals the map from the pirates so we can steal their treasure" and then comes back to get the boys and I. We made a map for Jacob to follow and David gave hints. This year Jacob wasn't so sure that we had stolen the map from actual pirates...but he knew for sure the chocolate gold came from the pirates :)

Christmas 2010

So this year the boys out voted me and we merrily put up the christmas tree whilst we baked our thanksgiving turkey! We had a fun time looking through all the ornaments and getting ready to host dinner for our New York family. On the 15th of December we flew out to Oregon for our 3 week visit. This year we had great flights and great weather in Eugene. In past years we have had ice and snow on the roads and gotten stuck and Nana and Papa's house :( Eric and Lindsay were in town and we got to catch up with them and Uncle Alex who was home from college.

4 years old!!!

So Jacob was very excited about turning 4, as most kids probably do he told everyone he ran into that he was turning four soon. He asked for a "Batman Set" and we pretty much knew that would make his day if he got one. We decided to keep it pretty low key and he is still happy with that :) I can't believe he is already four, changing everyday and still a very sweet boy.

Our Oregon Trip

This year we were able to fly out to Eugene to spend two weeks with our West Coast family. Jacob had a blast! He was up everyday at 6am running down stairs to visit with his Nana and Papa.

Here are Josh and I in the children's museum up in Portland.

Jacob on our trip to The Portland Children's Museum. I have to admit I was a little jealous. These people were not afraid to let the kids make a mess. There was an awesome water room. The kids had vests and got to experiment with moving the water around thru pumps etc. There was also a room with clay...kids got to build anything they wanted then glaze it and come back in a few weeks to pick it up once it had been fired...HELLO AWESOME!

Lately I have been sitting Joshua in his highchair so that I can get dinner ready and he can watch me and get used to the idea of sitting with us at dinner. He likes to play with the Ark that Nana and GG brought him in October...mostly chewing on the elephants nose! He also like to hold a spoon in his mouth and has even taken a bottle a couple of times.....

Jacob was pretty excited about Halloween this year. We ended up trick or treating at the Museum on Friday and trunk or treating at Browncroft Community Church on Saturday. I don't have any pictures of us outside because it was dark and cold by the time we got there. Jacob was excited to wear the superman pj's that Nana got him for his costume and Joshua wore a lion costume just like Jacob did for his first Halloween.

Jacob and the neighbor girl Nina have really hit it off. She comes over a couple days a week and she and Jacob ride bikes on the driveway and play in the woods. Jacob always wants to go outside and wait for Nina to come out of her house. It is rather sweet. David says that Jacob asks about Nina before he falls asleep at night too. A couple of Saturdays ago, the town of Webster sponsored a Fall Hike and Hoe Down near the new hiking trails on Whiting Rd. David and Jacob enjoyed a hayride, several Halloween themed games and Jacob even got to ride on a pony. We took a hike in the woods and had lots of fun...until I lost David's key to our car and we had to wait for AAA...luckily my keys were in the car.

So we have had an exciting week here in the Parnell Household. Jacob started Puggles, an AWANA group, this week and loves it. Although I suspect it mostly has to do with snacktime. Jacob provided further evidence of my suspicion yesterday when he described in detail the kinds of cookies they have for snack! :)
Joshua hit the two month mark and is smiley and happy all the day long.He is sleeping well much to my delight.

Every Wednesday night during the summer, David has been going on a group ride in Webster. Recently Jacob has gotten tall enough to ride his tricycle and is totally into it. Now he has a helmet just like David and is excited to ride his bike and go out on the street and be just like daddy!

So we have had a busy summer since Joshua came home from the hospital. Nana (David's Mom) and Uncle Alex came out from Oregon to visit for a couple of days. During that time, David competed in his first triathlon. We have been going to the National Museum of Play a lot. Jacob has so much fun when he goes there, he runs from exhibit to exhibit. We went to the track at R.I.T. for jakes first all comers meet... 50m dash for ages 5 and under.

No one showed... It's on Tuesdays not Thursdays :) my bad.

Oh well, jake still got a good workout and
did his first highjump, longjump and 50m dash practice.

We'll try again and get him in next weeks meet.

We have been enjoying our time out in the yard this year!!! Jacob is still begging us to dig for worms and hunt for frogs out in the yard. I haven't bought him a sandbox because I am pretty sure he wouldn't even play in it. Jacob loves to turn over rocks and see what creepy crawly things are under there. David has been getting a ton of work done in the yard...more pictures of that later.

OKay I know this is ridiculously late but....

Easter 2009!!!
Saturday we went to a Easter Egg Hunt at the Rec Center in Webster. It was freezing and lasted about 20 seconds so I have no pictures of that. We met my old friend Tony, his wife Christyn and their son Leo and went to Barnes and Noble to play trains and have hot coco. Sunday morning we whoke up and David and Jacob found their baskets. We went to church and came home to make Easter Brunch for the family. Actually my mom and dad brought the ham so all i had to worry about was the potatoes, salad.

Jacob didn't want to go to church this morning and he didn't like his vest.

"I'm NOT HAPPY!"

Spring Time Update

So if you haven't already heard...Jacob is going to be a big brother in July! We are excited about the new bundle of diapers, sleepless nights and toothless grins. We are trying to tell Jacob a little bit about what his brother is going to be like. Last night we were talking about the baby and how it was in my tummy. Jacob replied "Baby Hatch" as in, the baby is going hatch out of your stomach mom? It gave me a good laugh. Then he started say the baby was going to hatch out of his tummy and was trying to stick out his tummy. It was quite cute.

And just now David went to go the bathroom and Jacob of course followed him in. Jacob told David "Go on the potty get sticker and chocolate Dad." It was just hilarious because that is what we have been telling Jacob everytime it looks like he has to go the bathroom and now he was telling David the same thing.

Spring has sprung around these parts. The daffodil bulbs that Jacob and I planted last fall have come up. The trick is getting Jacob to understand they aren't weeds and that he needs to be gentle with them :) He is enjoying being able to get outside and dig for worms again. David and I are trying to get as much done in the yard as we can before the trees get leaves again. We have a large wooded area in our front yard that we are trying to tame. The former owners used the area as a compost pile for all their yard work and there are lots of little saplings that don't get enough sunlight that need to come down too.

So we were experiencing a little bit of cabin fever the past couple of weeks. It has been under 20 most days with a lot of time spend under 10. We were watching the travel channel and they had a special on waterparks that got me thinking. I did some research and found there are at least 3 indoor waterparks right near us. The Great Wolf Lodge in particular looked great. It was in Canada right near Niagra Falls. It has a story time each night for the kids, a video arcade, a kids club, lots of expensive places to eat...the whole resort package! The indoor waterpark was awesome...it felt about an 85 degree day with just the right touch of humidity. Jacob had a great time, he loved the kids hot tub and all the little water fountains. It was nice to be in some warm weather :) I am already planning our return trip for October, when I will be able to enjoy all the rides that pregnant ladies like myself have to avoid.

For Lisa's birthday we decided to go to Power's Farm Market. They have a bunch of farm animals, a giant tp filled with jack o lanterns and delicious donuts...they sell pumpkins too. It was a rather warm day but nice and sunny which was nice. After we picked out our pumpkins we went to Sharon's house and ate cider and donuts...and david climbed about 16ft up a tree and tried to shake it so it would fall down. I don't have a picture of that unfortunately but it was quite a spectical to behold. He and my dad were able to pull it down eventually btw.

i really have been meaning to get on this thing and post some pictures. the first part of this month we decided that we needed to get away on a family vacation. we had been watching the travel channel and saw a special on disney. SOOOOOO...we decided to go to sunny florida for a while. i have to say i really felt like God was totally watching out for us the whole time we were traveling. we had great weather, no flight delays, no lost luggage, there were no lines in the park, jacob behaved so well, nobody got sick, we had a blast!!!!!!

We tried to go to our camping spot again this summer. Last summer was so great. Jacob wasn't very mobile yet and played in the pack n play most of the time. He loved swimming and was pretty happy the whole time. He had his first McDonald's french fries on that trip too. We had very high hopes that this years trip would be just as great. Jacob seemed very excited as we packed the car and did last minute shopping for the trip. He really wasn't sure about the swimsuit with the built in floaties in it though. We left mid-morning and made it to the campground before dinner anyways. We had to stop in Crannberry Lake at a public beach because Jacob had been chanting "out" for a good 25 minutes. He is very persistant. We were very excited pulling into the campsite. Jacob scrambled out of the car and ran for the fire pit!!!! Needless to say between the water and the fire pit he had the time of his life all 4 days we were there. It was more than a little frazzling for us!!! I am glad we went but we may wait until he is a little older to try it again.

Here are the pictures from our photo session last week. We decided to get some family pictures too. I am sure 20 years from now I will be happy that we did. Jacob had a little trouble getting started. He had just woke up from a nap before we left the house. By the time we were done taking pictures he had figured out what was going on

I think this is my favorite picture of the shoot.

Here is Jacob sitting like a good little boy on the bench. What you don't know is that it took several tries to get this. He kept getting up off the bench to play with it.

So Jacob and I were watching tv the other day (I know he shouldn't be watching tv at such a young age but oh well) and a commerical for a zoo came on. He went crazy pointing at the screen and stuff so I figured a trip to the zoo was in order. We checked out our very own Seneca Park Zoo. David and I ran a couple of xc races around there back in the day but I hadn't been to the zoo in probably 14 years. So off to the zoo we went

So this will be our new house! After three long years of renting and moving around we will finally have a place to put down some roots. We feel really blessed to be taking this big step into home ownership...for the third time. The house is off Salt Road (instead of Hard, Lake, Basket or Ridge Road :P) near the Lake. It does need a bit of updating but we think the location and the fact that it is on a cul-d-sac make up for that. Plus it has a great two tier deck of the back!!!

We decided today that we were going to try to make in all the way to Rochester. We got off to an early start and had high hopes. We drove all the way up into Michigan. It was an amazing drive. During some parts we were right on the water with the sun shining and the water lapping up onto the shore. Most of the drive was through the middle of no-wheres-ville. We did go over a pretty impressive bridge which Jacob got a kick out of.
The only real excitement of the day happened around Indian Springs, Michigan. We stopped at a gas station to fill up. The pump said we had put 14.5 gallons of gas in the tank. Only when we turned the car back on, the gas gauge still read that we only had a quarter of a tank of gas left. David and I just chalked it up to the gas gauge suddenly breaking and headed out on the road. But, when we start driving the gas gauge kept going down. Then about 6o miles down the road our gas light goes on! We needed to pull over to change Jacob so we stopped at the next station. (Otherwise, I think we would have just kept driving.) We decided to try and pump some more gas into the tank and wouldn't ya know...it takes about 14 gallons of gas. (our tank is a 14 gallon tank) If I haven't make myself clear...than means the first time we stopped for gas we paid 60 but didn't get any gas. So we almost got stranded out in the middle of nowhere. Jacob really saved the day!
We drove through Flint, Michigan and went over the border into Canada. It was really weird. It seemed like a different country for sure. We drove back into the country with no problem and were home around 11:30pm. Whew!

Today we drove to Wisconson. I drove a little bit again so David could watch all the cool scenery. We stopped at Mall of America for several hours. We went to the Rain Forest Cafe for lunch. Jacob was a little intimidated by the apes that moved and screeched. We sat right by a giant fish tank which he loved. We checked out lego land and the nickelodeon theme park inside the mall as well. That night we saw a motocycle accident were they had hit a deer and decided to stop so we wouldn't hit a deer too. The deer were out and running across the road like crazy.

Okay so David's computer crashed somewhere around day 5 of our trip east which is why the blogging stopped so abruptly during the trip. We stayed really close the the park so we were able to get going right after breakfast. This place was truly amazing. I don't remember learning much about Mt. Rushmore in school but it is pretty interesting place.

Today was a great day of driving. Jacob continues to do extremely well in the car. We only stopped in Buffalo, WY for lunch and at a Walmart to let Jacob run around a bit. I drove for about 200 miles today so David really had a chance to enjoy the view. We enjoyed some more amazing scenery. We just cannot get over how beautiful this drive is! There were lots of prong horns in herds along the road. We got snowed on again...and yes David was excited! We ended the day in Keystone, SD right by Mt. Rushmore. We ate dinner at the place next door and went swimming in the hotel pool. Tomorrow.. MT. RUSHMORE!!!!

Today was great! We had breakfast and headed right to Yellowstone! We went in through the north entrance of the park.

The arch at the north entrance of the park that dates back to the opening of the park...this used to be the only way to get into the park...(i am kinda into history)

We saw some elk grazing in the grass on the side of the road. The first stop was Mammoth Hotsprings. It was really amazing to walk around the different springs.

This picture was too funny...it was all just the right angle of the camera and good timing with Jacob's expression.

After the hotsprings we drove down to Old Faithful. The stops along the way were amazing. We saw a rather large bison grazing by itself along a river. He was huge!
You can see the bison in the background of this picture...I would not want to mess with this thing.

Our next stop was prompted when we saw this huge steaming pool on the side of the road. Since it was cool out, all the hotsprings were giving off steam like crazy. It actually looked like something was on fire. Anyways we stopped and got out and the pool was this amazing blue color.

Our next stop was a waterfall. Perhaps more exciting than the waterfall was this giant crow hopping around. This crow was about 2feet tall....everyone was taking pictures of this bird...I half expected it to start talking or something it was so freakishly big.

The next stop was this larger pool. It was deep blue in the middle and orange in color on the edges.

It started to rain after that so we decided to call it quits and just drove through the rest of the park...which took a good hour and a half! Yellowstone Lake was still covered in ice and there was lots of snow still on the ground. We saw two more large bison herds. To David's delight, it snowed, but only briefly. We ended our day in Cody, WY. We ate dinner at this very yummy chinese place. After that we watched the Lost season finale...it was great!

We started off from Ritzville, WA with plans to get to Glacier National Park. Along the way we decided that it was too far out of the way. We opted instead to drive through Cor de lane, ID. It was a really pretty town and the views of the lake were amazing. We stopped at this ski resort for lunch. We had hoped to take a ride on their gondola but it was not running :( Lunch was yummy and we were on our way. We drove through Montana. David and I both agreed it was the prettiest drive we had ever been on. Right as we got near Yellowstone, there were tons of deer and lots of cows to keep Jacob entertained. (There was even a deer in the parking lot of our hotel so we got to see one up close.) Jacob is such a trooper.

We got on the road late in the morning and didn't really expect to get too far. Jacob did really well riding in the car. He fell asleep almost right away and slept until Portland. We went to a mall outside of Portland and walked around a bit. Jacob was very interested in the fish ponds. We continued to drive North east and found this cute produce store. They also made sandwiches which were super yummy. Jacob saw the tractor as soon as he got out of the car and wanted to ride on it right away! We decided to end the day in Ritzville. Our hotel had a pool and we went swimming that night which Jacob loved!

We took a day trip to the Oregon Coast last week. We had fun showing Jacob the ocean. He played in the sand and kept trying to walk into the ocean! We drove up to Newport and ate at Mo's Annex(Note: they don't have french fries or fried food there) and saw the sea lions.

Jacob has loved to brush his teeth or gums since he was about 7 months old. Now that he has been getting more teeth the business of brushing teeth is becoming serious! Well almost. Nothing David and Jacob do together is serious for very long. Here are some pictures from tonight.

My new sled!

So we finally bought Jacob a sled. It is super cool and perfect for a 14 month old. We braved the cold temperatures and took him out on the run behind the cottage. He loved it for the first 15 minutes and then he wanted to get out and push the sled. Unfortunately the sled was too light and he kept falling on his belly. Screaming insued when we picked him up to carry him home. Is this the start of the terrible 2's??

We have been getting dumped on here in Idaho! The three of us went on a walk this afternoon to check out all the snow. There were some guests trying to get to there homes and they couldn't because the road had not been plowed and had so much snow on it. this is me...i am acting sad about all the glorious, wonderful SNOW! this is the snow on the front step....it was shoveled clear last night here is a view of all the snow covering the roof and in front of the cottage jacob and i next to the lift chair check out how deep the snow is...

So halloween was soo fun! We finished up at David's grandfather's house and he headed up to Boise. We wanted to make sure Jacob got to spend his first halloween with his cousins. We headed out and even got to check out Harrison with all the big houses and the cool decorations...

So Jacob took a major fall and sliced his eyebrow open on Friday. We were not quite sure if he needed stitches or not. We decided since it was so close to his eye they probably wouldn't do stitches anyway. He does seem to be healing well. Check the last post again, I added some new pictures!

Okay so i have lost the cable that I need to upload new photos to the computer off of our camera. So yeah...sorry no photos. David, Jacob and I are in Eugene house sitting/alex watching/mocha watching for the Parnell's. We have been checking out the area and having a great time. We walked in hendricks park, checked out the new library and have been checking out the local food situation! Yummy! David ran into a guy he played football with in 8th grade today and the church we were visiting. Hey Ya'll. I can't believe it is almost the end of August! David,Jacob and I arrived here at Tamarack this afternoon. We are settling in and getting Jacob adjusted to the time change. Time for a picture update...

This is my father Frank with the newest grandchild, Jessica Ann.
My sister Laura and Jessica flew up to Rochester to spend the week with family. It was great to meet my neice! She is so tiny...just 10 lbs at 2 1/2 months.

This is my mom Joyce holding Jessica. You can get a better look at her face in this picture. She looks a lot like her big brother Oliver.

This is the view of the lake in pultnyville, ny. Every year our church has a church picnic and then does baptisms in the lake. This is where they did the baptism.

Here I am praying with the pastors before I get dunked. The view of the water was really beautiful and the weather was perfect. The whole time they were baptising people, the worship leaders where playing acustic guitars and singing worship music. It was so amazing!

Camping at Rollins Pond in the ADK!

I fell in love with Rollins Campground when my friend Robyn took me along on a family camping trip when I was 14. Most of the sites are right on the water so you can jump right in your canoe or kayak or take a swim anytime of the day. There are several lakes connected to Rollins which makes for great canoeing and lots of adventure. David and I have been camping here a couple of times and he has fallen in love with it too. It is so relaxing to be up there. Since we had not gone on vacation in awhile, we decided to make the trek up to Rollins and camp for a couple of days. Jacob did surprisingly well during the 5 plus hour cartrip. He loved being in the water, on the beach and pretty much everything else we did! We took a day trip to Lake Placid and spent a night in Saranac. Everywhere we went people gushed, poked and smiled at Jacob. The cashier at Mc Donalds gave him FREE ice cream! It was great to be back in the ADK!!!!

Fourth of July!!!

We drove down to Ithaca for the Fourth. We met up with some friends from high school and had a bbq. David went swimming in a creek by their apartment. The next day we went downtown and checked out the library and went to lunch. Here are some pictures.

All Three of Us Downtown, we got to enjoy some sunshine after all the rain on the fourth. This picture shows off Jacobs newest trick...scrunching up his nose when he smiles...David thinks it is the cutest thing!!! Ithaca has a large, new library and David used the wireless connection while Jacob and I checked out the childrens area. We had lunch a mexican place near the library..it was very good.

This is Jacob on the bed of our safari themed room at the B&B. Our host, Wanda, has been in business for 20 years! We had a yummy breakfast of Blintzes and fresh fruit. There were plenty of friendly kitties for Jacob to pet, roosters, chickens and a large koi pond.

We went down to Webster Park last Friday to try and excape the heat. We had a little cook out. It was fun! David had fun getting the grill going and chopping up the melon. Mommy, Daddy and I went on a roadtrip on Thursday! We hopped in the car and went down to Ithaca. We went out to dinner with Robyn and Mark. We stayed at a B&B and it was super fun. Paul and Fran, the owners, are super nice people! Fran held me while Mommy and Daddy ate breakfast and Paul played this really cool music. We saw goats, chickens and some tipis too! Today we went to the Lilac Festival with Robyn, Mark, Candace and Dan. It was a great time... even though I slept through most of it.

Our trip to Oregon/Idaho was great! Jacob did really well on the airplane and mostly okay on our long driving trips between Or and Id. It was great to see all our west coast family! David got to see a track meet, we did a little hiking and lots of eating! Thanks to all our family for hosting us while we were visiting. Here are some pics....

These are just some cute pictures that we have taken over the last couple of days. Jacob is recoverying from a cold but still happy as can be. Sunday evening, Uncle Jimmy, Aunt Sharon, Aunt Lisa and Uncle Matt, Aunt Laura and Cousin Oliver, Aunt Gina and her "friend" Brad came over to Grandpa's house for his famous spaghetti and meatballs or "Sauce" as we call it in these parts. Aunt Gina announced she is moving back to Rochester so that is exciting! We are getting ready for the much anticipated Oregon trip this week! See ya soon!

I decided to take my parents walking today... Sometimes I have to really beg to get them to do anything outdoors. I love the fresh air and all the animals. You can only look at plastic fish on the mobile for so long... ya know?!

One week before we fly out to Oregon! I hear there is going to be a party for me.... sweet. I like parties and I like bananas :)

Dady and I are hanging out all day saturday because mom is going to be hosting a yuuuuge party for Lisa... she is getting married and i think people just give her stuff. Sounds like a sweet deal!

Like I said, I like parties. Ga Goooo Prrrrrrrrrrrrt.

Okay, okay, i'll admit it! I have been a handful lately, that is why my mom has been slacking a bit on posting here! She has not been taking very many pictures lately either. Thats not to say I have not been doing anything cute, it is just going undocumented. There has also been lots of talk of this far away land called Oregon and this person called Nana....I wonder what this is all about. The parents said yesterday that is was 11 days until our trip there, so I guess today there would be only 10! Yippie....I think.

To make Jacob updates more fun, we have started this blog! I must warn you in advance that I am not really that great at blogging, David is the writer in this family! Ham Bone, as we have been affectionatly calling Jacob, is doing well and amazes us more and more everyday! He is the giggle man and loves to smile at everyone! He enjoys playing in his exersaucer and going for walks in his front carrier. He looks more and more like David everyday!
